Upper Dolpo Trek and Shey Phoksundo Lake offer a breathtaking adventure into the remote and mystical regions of western Nepal. At the heart of this journey lies Shey Phoksundo Lake, a mesmerizing turquoise lake situated at an altitude of 3,611 meters (11,849 ft) within Shey Phoksundo National Park. The lake is famous for its crystal-clear waters, dramatic cliffs, and surrounding snow-capped peaks. It holds deep spiritual importance for the local Bon and Buddhist communities.
Together, the trek and the lake offer an unforgettable experience for those seeking both natural beauty and cultural depth, far from the crowded trekking routes of Nepal.
Day 1 : Arrival - Kathmandu
You will be received by our representative at Tribhuvan International Airport and transferred to the hotel.
Day 2 : Kathmandu
Guided tour of the Kathmandu’s valley and of its principle monuments.
Day 3 : Kathmandu - Nepalganj (400 m)
Flight to Nepalganj (1h30). Night in an hotel.
Day 4 : Safe day in case of bad weather
Day 5 : Nepalganj - Juphal - Dunaï (2200 m) - 4h
Flight to Juphal (35 min) and then trek to Dunaï.
Day 6 : Dunaï - Tarakot (2455 m) - 5h
You continue your immersion into South Dolpo. You discover the mythic monastery of Pematchöling.
Day 7 : Tarakot - Lahini (3260 m) - 7h
You begin the ascent of Tarap Chu valley. Arrival on Lahini.
Day 8 : Lahini - Surdum (3 620 m) - 5h
The pace is slow: paths are steep.
Day 9 : Surdum - Dho Tarap (4 040 M) - 4h
You continue your progression in Trap Chu valley. You foresse the Ribo Bhumpa monastery, which means you are getting near Dho Tarap.
Day 10 : Dho Tarap (4 040 m) - 2h
Rest day dedicated to visit of monasteries and acclimation.
Day 11 : Dho Tarap – Foot of Khyung La (4 550m) - 6h
You cross the swarming village of Tarap Chu. Then, you get to Tok Kyu and you camp will be at one hour of this village.
Day 12 : Khyung La (5 000 m) - Langmasia La (5 100 m) - 8h
This morning, you head to Khyung La. Nigh under tent, just after you manage crossing Langmasia La.
Day 13 : Langmasia La - Sela Mungchung La - 8h
You climb to Sela Mungchung La. You swiftly reach the other face of the col before setting up your camp for night.
Day 14 : Sela Mungchung La - Shey Gompa - 4h
You trek towards the remote village of Shey Gompa, which is one of the most religious one in Dolpo.
Day 15 : Shey Gompa - Mendok Ding - 8h
A long walking day which makes you able to leave Tar valley. You discover the Tsakang monastery. Then you reash Mendok Ding where you sleep.
Day 16 : Mendok Ding - Lar Tsa - 4h
You begin your descent until Lar Tsa.
Day 17 : Lar Tsa - Chunemba - 6h
You go along a ridge before getting involved in a steep descent which leads to Kangh Gompa.
You reach Chunemba where you set camp.
Day 18 : Chunemba - Lac Phoksumdo - Ringmo - 6h
You go along Phoksumdo lake until Ringmo.
Day 19 : Ringmo
You enjoy this day to walk around Ringmo. Temples hold a lot of Buddhist paints and statues.
Day 20 : Ringmo - Hanke - 7h
You leave Ringmo and cross a crest (3780m). Then, you head to one of the highest Nepali fall. (300m). In the afternoon, you reach Hanke.
Day 21 : Hanke - Juphal - 6h
You find again the green valley and cross several villages.
Day 22 : Flight Juphal - Nepalganj - Kathmandu – Then free time
Day 23 : Kathmandu
Free time in Kathmandu
