Solukhumbu and Bhuddhist Monasteries


Trek for good walkers. Great hike at medium altitude, between 2000m and 3000m, with optional incursion at 4561m. Visit many Buddhist monasteries, preferred area of Tibetan refugee settlement for centuries and observation of famous Buddhist festival Mani Rimdu (October/November) in Chiwong monastery.
Best periods: March, April, May, for the blooming of Rhododendrons and October- November for Buddhist festivals generally at the end of October, November.

Crossing the Solukhumbu, you are closer to an authentic population (with some homestays), of Tibetan origin, with very well preserved culture, far from the roads and crowds of tourists.


Day 1 : Kathmandu
At you arrival you are received and welcomed by our representative and transferred to the Hotel.

Day 2 : Visit of Kathmandu
Sightseeing in Kathmandu valley. At Pashupatinath you discover the most important Nepalese Hindu temple on the side of Bagmati river. You continue to Bodhnath, one of the holiest Buddhist stupa of Nepal. After you go to Swyambhunath, an ancient Stupa and then Kathmandu Durbar Square.

Day 3 : Kathmandu (1350 m) - Jiri (1905 m)
You start your trip with transport from Kathmandu to Jiri. During the drive, you enjoy the view on green hills and snowy mountains. Though the road is narrow, it remains quite smooth.

Day 4 : Jiri - Deurali (2705 m) – 6h30
After the breakfast, the trek starts with slightly ascend to Mali Danda (2440 m) and you continue to Shivalaya (1800 m). One hour more to reach Deurali.

Day 5 : Deurali (2705 m) – Kinja (1610 m) – 6h
From Deurali, the trail is steep and goes down to Bhandar (2250 m). After, we descend towards Kenja (1600 m).

Day 6 : Kinja - Lamjura (3636 m) – 5h30
From Kinja, you cross Dagchu and Goyem villages. And the trail continues to Lamjura. Green landscapes, maid of valleys, dispersed habitation.

Day 7 : Lamjura (3636 m) - Junbesi (2700 m) - 5h
Descent and cross of rhododendron’s forests before arriving at Junbesi. View on Dhudh Kunda.

Day 8 : Junbesi - Thupten Choing Monastry (3000 m) - 4h
The biggest Tibetan monastery in Nepal situated at the altitude of 3000m. It is the stronghold of His Holiness Trulshig Rinpoche with a monastic community of more than 500 monks and nuns.

Day 9 : Thupten Choing Monastry (3000 m) - Shengeephuk campsite (3940 m) – 5h
During the trek you cross a Buddhist village (Kumagangdo), a Buddhist school, and a meditation cave. Camping at Shengeephuk.

Day 10 : Shengeephuk campsite (3940 m) – Saharsbeni (3835 m) – 5h
From Shengeephuk campsite, you cross a rhododendron landscape, a bamboo forest and you enjoy the view on the Himalayan range, before arriving at Saharsbeni.

Day 11 : Saharsbeni – Dudhkunda lake (4561 m) – back to Beni (3450 m) - 5h
Excursion to Dudhkunda Lake, a holy lake popular for pilgrims. Back to Beni just down to Saharsbeni.

Day 12 : Beni - Ringmo (2700 m) - 6h
From Beni you continue to Ringmo with great views on the Himalayan range.

Day 13 : Ringmo - Chiwong monastery (2745 m) - 4h
Trek of around three hours to reach Chiwong monastery After the lunch, we visit Chiwong monastery, which is perched on a high cliff. Observation of Mani Rimdu festival.

Day 14 : According to dates, festival in Chiwong monastery – 4h
We stay on more day in Chiwong Monastery.(*)
(*) The date of this trek, in november, is normally planned to assist the Mani Rimdu festival in full moon of November.

Day 15: Chiwong monastery - Ghunsa (2225 m) - 6h
From Chiwong, you start the trek to Ghunsa, village and school supported by French association Ciel de Ghunsa – Solidarité Népal. Accomodation – Homestay.

Day 16 : Visit of Ghunsa
The next day you stay at Ghunsa and visit the village, school and health post.

Day 17 : Ghunsa - Phaplu (2469 m) - 4h

Day 18 : Flight from Phaplu to Kathmandu
Option day 17 and 18 according to weather conditions : trek Bakhur 3 hours and jeep to Kathmandu the next day.

Day 19 : Kathmandu, safe day
In case of bad weather, or change in the program.

Day 20: Kathmandu free day
Free day in Kathmandu to discover this brilliant valley. Safe day in case of bad weather.

Day 21 : Kathmandu
Free day. Transfer to the airport according to everyone’s hour.
